English I is a general course designed to balance the areas of literature and writing. The course builds on the work begun in junior high school and introduces students to the senior high school English sequence. This course includes study in grammar, mechanics, paragraph, and composition writing. The study of literature includes short stories, poetry, nonfiction, essays, drama, and the novel. This course requires reader-response essays and research work. Students will take an End of Course Exam at the completion of this course.
